About The Project

Walk of the Ancestors 2017 sets out to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1867 Fenian Rising. A local Fenian, John Golden was a member of the rising and took part in the raid on Kells Coastguard Station, along with several other local Fenians from South Kerry.

Walk of the Ancestors aims to collate the local history of this rising. The events taking place in April 2017 will consist of a series of historical lectures, a re-enactment of scenes from the story, songs, music and unveiling a plaque to John Golden.
